How to plan lighting with LED spotlights

You can use LED spotlights as a versatile light source in every room of your home. When you start planning the lighting, you will definitely have many questions. So where to start? We have the answer. In this blog, you will get effective tips for planning your perfect lighting with LED spotlights.

What kind of LED bulbs should I use?

For each room and area of your home, there are different lighting requirements. Depending on the activities and tasks that take place in that area, you should carefully consider the type of lighting that best suits the space. The good news is that there are only two types of LED bulbs that can be used throughout the house:

LED projector for warm white lighting

We offer our own warm white Loxone LED spotlights for everyday life.

LED projector for color lighting.
For colorful lighting, we have developed our own Loxone RGBW LED spotlights.

Where should I use what focus?

There are two rules to keep in mind:

1. Wherever you need a lot of light, e.g. To work in the kitchen or home office, use the LED spotlight for warm white light. Concentrate the light at one point.
2. Wherever you want elegant lighting, e.g. on ceilings, walls, furniture ... use the RGBW LED spotlight. It offers a diffused light that extends throughout the room.

Here is an example of a floor plan. We place warm white LED spotlights (marked in yellow) in the kitchen and RGBW LED spotlights (marked in red) for ambient and color lighting in the living room.

How many spotlights do I need? How much space should there be between them?

Measure your space and consider the following lighting rule:

The light beam of warm white LED dots should always overlap in a third with the following light beam. The diagram below assumes a room height of approximately 98" and a space between the 59" LED points to get the perfect lighting with enough light.

To save power, combine LED spotlights with the Loxone RGBW 24V dimmer. 8 WW LED points can be operated per channel.

How does it work for colored spotlights, RGBW LED spotlights?

It's the same: we recommend a 59" space between LED spotlights.

Unlike warm white dots, RGBW LED Spots do not have a directed light cone, but a diffused light for ambient lighting. It is perfect in combination with our Loxone RGBW 24V attenuator. Each attenuator can operate 8 spotlights.

Where should I place the LED bulbs if I have a fan?

Avoid any light within the operating diameter of the fan blades. Keep the distance between the downlights and the ceiling fan.
